Why does our Dentist in Secret Harbour recommend routine check-ups?
Dental diseases often have no noticeable symptoms until they have progressed to a severe stage. This means that you may not experience any pain even if your teeth are decaying.
To prevent dental diseases from developing or worsening, the Australian Dental Association recommends that patients have routine check-ups every six months. During a routine check-up, your dentist can screen for early signs of dental disease and recommend treatment if necessary.
A routine check-up typically includes the following:
- Examination of the teeth for signs of decay, erosion, and bruxism (clenching or grinding)
- Examination of the soft tissue for signs of gum disease (gingivitis or periodontitis) and oral cancer
- Examination of the jaws for signs of temporomandibular dysfunction (TMD) and orthodontic jaw malalignment
- Orthodontic referrals (for both adult and children)
- Sleep apnoea assessment (and devices)
If necessary, your dentist may refer you to another specialist for further treatment.
